I purchased this back on March 25, 2010, and no I did not have a baby at that time! Nor was I even pregnant. I have problems, I know. Anyways, now that I DO have a baby I feel I can offer some input on this awesome soft structured carrier.
This carrier is amazing for on-the-go and it's buckled adjustable straps are really easy to use. While other carriers (like wraps or mei tais) can take time to figure out, this one is pretty simple right off the bat. The padded straps are super comfortable and the hood thing snaps up to cover baby from sun or wind. I love the black colour of this because dirt doesn't show up on it, and the embroidery is super pretty.
I highly recommend following the safety instructions concerning the belt buckle and related strap. They suggest pulling the strap through the elastic loop to further secure the waist belt just in case the actual buckle opens somehow. I actually did have the buckle open on me once (I have no idea how or why) but I was glad that I'm pretty anal about safety precautions and had that strap pulled through the elastic loop.
I do get some back strain when wearing this for a long time, but I think I get that with the majority of baby carriers, so that's probably just me. I have heard from plenty of others that they can wear this carrier for a very long time without feeling any strains or pains.
The Ergo is awesome for being out and about because you don't have to worry about straps falling in the dirt. I also like to put on the waist belt and let the carrier hang when I am going out with baby in the car. This way as soon as I get where I'm going I can whip her out of the car seat (which she hates) and right into the Ergo. I also find it super easy to either pin a blanket onto the ergo or tuck the corners of a blanket under the straps when it gets a bit chilly out.
Verdict: If you come across one of these on a deal site, go for it! I'm an Ergo enabler...
How do YOU use your Ergo? Any tips or tricks? Anyone tried the side carry? I'm curious about how that works. Any questions for me?

I have 2 Ergos - one for the house, one for the car. The 2nd one is a blue ergo sport that I picked up from babysteals recently. I actually prefer the original because of the pocket. My husband prefers the sport, I'm not really sure why. We are the same size.
ReplyDeleteI do a modified side-carry to nurse in the Ergo. I just slide the waistbelt around to adjust my daughter to line up to my boob. I tighten the shoulder strap on that side & loosen the strap on the other side. Works great, and no one ever suspects I'm nursing in public while walking around.
I have done the back carry with my older daughter, even while I was pregnant with #2. It's hard for me to do the back carry by myself. I never did master that. But, now she's not interested in being worn. That girl is always on the move!
Ahh I so wanted that blue Ergo sport when it came up the other day! I've heard it's awesome for summer, much cooler. And I can't wait to try that side carry for nursing you described, it would be great at the mall because throngs of little old men are always staring when I try to nurse in the foodcourt!
